The first was a long-time member of the oldsmobile club of america and the second was a retired oldsmobile dealer. The loving care is fitting, as the toronado holds a special place in american automotive history. It was the first american-made, front-wheel-drive vehicle since the death of the cord in 1937. As 1966 was the first year of its production, consumers were originally hesitant about the fwd platform, so general motors employed racing legend bobby unser for commercials where he drove the vehicle and complimented its steering and drivability. After extensive research and testing, it was determined that while the weight-bias towards the frontend created the potential for understeer, it was no worse than other american luxury vehicles of the era. In addition to its fwd status, the toronado was also gm? This toronado was restored in the early ? 90s and has held up incredibly well due to the low miles it has seen over the last 20 years, just about 3,000. In 2016, the air conditioning was rebuilt with original style components, creating a cool-temped cabin with original interior that echoes the ? Air Conditioning

With 21,997 cutlasses produced in 1966, only 2,853 were convertibles and this one is a sight to be seen. More than just a visual stunner, this cutlass is equipped with a 455 v8 engine, smooth automatic transmission, and power steering to make this the perfect cruiser. While this cutlass still looks and feels like a ? 66, it has a few modern amenities, including a custom autosound am/fm radio with an auxiliary input and the front brakes were converted to power disc brakes a little over a year ago. There really is not much topping this cruiser. The black vinyl interior, paired with the automatic top and modern radio make for the perfect venue for a sun-drenched cruise by the lake. This vehicle has been very well maintained by the current owner, including paperwork on even the smallest of jobs over the last year plus. Some of the work includes: installing the new radio, repairing the turn signals, overhauling the carburetor, and replacing worn and loose ball joints. AM/FM

Louis showroom is a 1966 oldsmobile toronado. This would be the first american made mass produced front wheel drive automobile and what a car! Power comes from a 425 cubic inch v8 producing 385 horsepower and 475 lbs/ft of torque! That's quite an entrance for a front wheel drive car. Power is transferred to the front wheels via a th-425 automatic transmission. This was very close the th-400 and was found to be very durable. Something different for consumers was the flat floor being there was no need for a transmission tunnel or a hump for the driveshaft. This along with the fastback styled rear end made for a very futuristic styled car. The toronado was an instant success for oldsmobile and production continued until 1992 when it was replaced by the oldsmobile aurora. This 1966 oldsmobile toronado is powered by its original 425 cubic inch v8 and is painted in a very catchy color named tropic turquoise metallic with a matching interior color. Pop up headlights, white wall radial tires, power windows, power brakes, power steering and a/c make this a great cruising car and a hit at almost any car show. The car received a frame on restoration 2 years ago. The car was taken down to bare metal which required removing all trim, weather stripping and window felt. The car was so solid that no metal replacement was needed. During the restoration the interior received new carpet, front seat upholstery using nos material. The rear seat, headliner and door panels are original. Other work includes a new windshield, rebuilt vacuum headlights, battery, alternator, voltage regulator, rebuilt original quadra jet carburetor, complete new exhaust, rebuilt am radio, the clock was converted to quartz for more accurate movement and all new brakes. The brakes were converted to dual circuit from the single circuit for safety. Gatewayclassiccars. Com. Power Windows✔ Air Conditioning
