Interestingly, the imperial name was used by chrysler for its top of the line model since 1926, but never as its own make. That is until 1955, when the manufacturer made it its own make to compete with cadillac and lincoln. S 41,123 units in 1957. This 1965 imperial crown convertible is a great example of the luxury and style of the chrysler brand and is one of 633 produced. Cloaked in a brilliant shade of red paint and complimentary burgundy leather interior, this imperial was bought on april 11, 1965 from harold motors, inc. S features were walnut veneer on the steering column and instrument panel. This was carefully harvested claro walnut, 8 oz were fit for the imperial. Note the conventional steering-column shift lever for the torqueflite automatic transmission that replaced the push buttons that had been used on these cars for the prior decade. Powered by the numbers-matching 413 cid v8, this car gently glides down the road and drives like a dream with the heavenly power steering. Relax in the burgundy bench seat that provides an abundance of comfort thanks to argentine quebacho wood, a bark from the south african wattle tree, as well as sicilian sumac leaf that were used to give imperial leathers a softness and strength finer than that of the most costly important cars. The leather was then treated with tallow of ewe and sperm whale oil for suppleness and durable patina. The glass covers were high strength tempered with a series of fine, ceramic horizontal lines mimicking the grille. The covers ran afoul of the law in california which had initiated a system of roadside stops to check headlight aiming, using a device fitted over the headlamp lenses. This was not possible with chrysler covers unless they were removed. During the late 90â?? s one could say that there was a lull in automotive design. With most manufacturers looking to increase fuel economy and passenger room there was a lot to be desired creatively with vehicles of this time. In 1997 Chrysler decided to change that and let their engineers and designers have a field day from the doldrums of designing vehicles like Stratus, Concorde, and other less than exhilarating vehicles. The result of this mini vacation was the Prowler. Designed in the retro hot rod fashion the Prowler was unlike anything seen on the road and found its spot in posters on the walls of many an adolescents room quickly. Under the hood many expected there would be a V8 of some sort but with its light weight and almost 50/50 weight distribution the Prowler boasted some very impressive performance figures for being powered by a V6. The transmission was located in the rear of the vehicle much like the design in the C5 Corvette which allowed the Prowler to be quite nimble. This fine example is a great low mileage car with all the features offered in a Prowler. The complex story of the Chrysler's TC by Maserati has been told many times over: Introduced at the 1986 Los Angeles Auto Show, ostensibly to become a 1987 model, the TC ("Turbo Convertible," according to the dealer window sticker) actually didn't appear until the 1989 model year. The concept for this luxury two-seat convertible dated back to 1984, when Chrysler bought 15.6 percent of Maserati--the majority of the remaining stake belonging to De Tomaso Industries--with the idea of having Maserati produce a small number of luxury cars for the Detroit automaker.
