Interestingly, the imperial name was used by chrysler for its top of the line model since 1926, but never as its own make. That is until 1955, when the manufacturer made it its own make to compete with cadillac and lincoln. S 41,123 units in 1957. This 1965 imperial crown convertible is a great example of the luxury and style of the chrysler brand and is one of 633 produced. Cloaked in a brilliant shade of red paint and complimentary burgundy leather interior, this imperial was bought on april 11, 1965 from harold motors, inc. S features were walnut veneer on the steering column and instrument panel. This was carefully harvested claro walnut, 8 oz were fit for the imperial. Note the conventional steering-column shift lever for the torqueflite automatic transmission that replaced the push buttons that had been used on these cars for the prior decade. Powered by the numbers-matching 413 cid v8, this car gently glides down the road and drives like a dream with the heavenly power steering. Relax in the burgundy bench seat that provides an abundance of comfort thanks to argentine quebacho wood, a bark from the south african wattle tree, as well as sicilian sumac leaf that were used to give imperial leathers a softness and strength finer than that of the most costly important cars. The leather was then treated with tallow of ewe and sperm whale oil for suppleness and durable patina. The glass covers were high strength tempered with a series of fine, ceramic horizontal lines mimicking the grille. The covers ran afoul of the law in california which had initiated a system of roadside stops to check headlight aiming, using a device fitted over the headlamp lenses. This was not possible with chrysler covers unless they were removed. The first chrysler automobile to appear on american roads was a 1924 model, and walter p. Chrysler's new car enjoyed immediate success. This 1930 model 66 two-person coupe is one of 1,600 built in 1929 and 1930. The depression years were devastating for the country and for the luxury automobile industry. And yet the first mickey mouse comic strip appears, gas is only . 10 a gallon and this great little car rolls off the assembly line. The model 66 was named for its 66-mph top speed. This car is the first of twelve two-person coupes built in 1931 as a carryover model. Unique to these twelve is the curved headlight bar, and the model 66 emblem. This chrysler is equipped with its original 218 cubic-inch engine and 3-speed manual transmission. The cost of this car new was under $1,000. What a great piece of american automobile history. Rolling on wooden spoke wheels, and a fun rumble seat in the back. All the work for this car was completed earlier this year.
