For sale now in Gateway Classic Cars' Houston showroom is this custom 1978 Jeep CJ7 4WD. This Jeep looks brand new due, thanks to its all fiberglass body. Introduced for the 1976 model year, the new Jeep CJ-7 featured a wheelbase 10 inches longer than that of the CJ-5 and lacked its trademark rear curve of the door cutouts. The other main difference between CJ-5 and CJ-7 was to the chassis which consisted of two parallel longitudinal main c-section rails. To help improve vehicle handling and stability, the rear section of the chassis stepped out to allow the springs and shock absorbers to be mounted closer to the outside of the body. Underhood is the sturdy 232 CID Inline 6, with its single barrel carb. With the fiberglass body, this CJ7 feels like a lot of weight was lifted off its shoulders, and is plenty peppy! The cj-5 has the distinct honor of being a vehicle that was hard to kill off. This chevy powered 1965 cj-5 is a complete hand built frame-up custom restoration job. Powered by a 2000 chevy 4. 3 l35 motor with a brand new upgraded multi-port injection, custom made exhaust headers, cold air intake system, a custom aluminum radiator and dual exhaust. S hooked up to a borg-warner t-90 3 speed manual transmission, dana 18 transfer case and dana 44 rear and 27 front axles. The original brakes have been replaced by big disk brakes pushed by wilwood master cylinder and a jeep yj wrangler brake/clutch pedals. The hydraulic clutch has a wilwood clutch cylinder. With steel braided fuel lines and a mr. Power steering is hooked up to a saginaw steering column. The frame was striped and painted, underside of body sprayed; itã¢?? S painted inside with rhino bed liner. The body was removed from the frame, floor pans were replaced, as were the fenders and tailgate. Crager steel wheels and 31 inch tires, the swing away spare tire carrier is custom design and hand built. It does include the full bestop supertop with 2 piece removable doors. Full functional specs books with all parts information and wiring information. The inside has new vinyl seats. From the beginning, the cj line of jeeps were built for the sole purposes of utility and capability. They were go anywhere vehicles. Throw it at them, and they can handle it. Beginning in 2003, this cj-7 has undergone a frame-up restoration. The parts list reads more like a dream build, and will satisfy even the most intense jeep entusiast. The entire tub is new heavy duty fiberglass that has been reinforced with kevlar for those particularly tough trails. Rhino liner bed spray was used throughout the top side to protect the body from the inevitable abuse that a jeep will see. The dana 30 front and dana 20 rear axles are more than up to the task of spinning the 33x12. 5 general grabber tires, and feature a tom woods double cardan driveshaft in the rear, and 2ã¢?â driveshaft in the front. There is also a dana 20 transfer case with the twin stick conversion. The transfer case and t-150 3 speed transmission were both rebuilt by custom transmission in copperas cove, texas. That 3 speed is mounted to the tried and true ford 302 cid v8. That motor has been rebuilt, and also features a holley 600 cfm carburetor, edelbrock intake manifold, 7 quart moroso deep sump oil pan, shorty headers, and an in-line, low pressure fuel pump. This stout v8 wedged in the lightweight body of a classic jeep gives a serious advantage in the power-to-weight category, and is more than enough to motivate this suv down the road, or up a mountain. Other major new parts on the vehicle include a new dash, gauges, all wiring from bumper to bumper by painless wiring, brake discs and drums, brake lines, master cylinder, and calipers, a heavy duty steering gearbox, drag links, ties rod ends, and pro comp 2. 5ã¢?â lift springs with es3000 shocks.
