The ford thunderbird began life in february 1953 in direct response to chevrolets new sports car, the corvette, which was publicly unveiled in prototype form just a month before. Under rapid development, the thunderbird went from idea to prototype in about a year, being unveiled to the public at the detroit auto show on february 20, 1954. Production of the thunderbird began later on in 1954 on september 9 with the car beginning sales as a 1955 model on october 22, 1954. Though sharing some design characteristics with other fords of the time, such as single, circular headlamps and tail lamps and modest tailfins, the thunderbird was sleeker and more athletic in shape, and had features like a faux hood scoop and a 140 mph speedometer hinting a higher performance nature that other fords didnt possess. This particular thunderbird has undergone a partial restoration, and is in fantastic driver quality condition. The list of mechanical that have been replaced is extensive: the brake master cylinder, shoes, wheel cylinder, power booster, and slave cylinder, power steering assembly and steering box, heater core and valve, heater control panel, oil pump, all belts and hoses, stabilizer bar, ends and bushings, shocks, rear axle and front wheel bearings, and full exhaust system. Additionally, the radiator was vatted and rodded, the holley carburetor was rebuilt. The interior wasn't forgotten on this restoration either, as the whole interior has been redone including the carpets and headliner. All in all, this adds up to a porthole window d-code baby bird that really is a joy to drive. It is hard to not look good driving a thunderbird, especially when it is a t-bird that looks this good. The atlanta showroom is offering this 1957 ford thunderbird for sale. Thanks to franklin q. Hershey & william p. Boyer, ford had a car that combined the flair of a sports car and the comfort of a boulevard cruiser, the thunderbird. However, a slight sales decline in 1956 sent ford designers back to their drawing boards. The labor resulted in the consummate two-seat thunderbird. Other less visible improvements included larger openings for improved cooling, revised spring rates, larger brakes, stiffer chassis crossmembers, a 12-volt electrical system and new 14-inch wheels. These evolutionary steps enabled a more stable and capable handling thunderbird and its spare tire back in the trunk. Marketed as a spacious, luxurious boulevardier, the thunderbird was introduced in 1955 in response to the chevrolet corvette, which had been launched two years earlier. This two top t-bird had a frame off restoration about 4 years ago. Options include, radial tires, hard and soft top, vintage air. Gatewayclassiccars. Com. Power Windows

The valve covers are the original thunderbird ribbed covers that scream 50s style. Under the chrome air cleaner sits the stock style 4bbl carburetor that the purist's will surly love. The infamous porthole hard top is in amazing condition and painted to match the t-bird . With the hardtop secured into place the road noise diminishes significantly. This is a classic thunderbird with a timeless look which bodes well for an investment piece and a fun driver alike. Power Windows✔ Power Seats
