In 1968 gm made a few changes to the caddy starting with the grilles. They had an insert with finer mesh and step down outer section which held the rectangular parking lights just a little higher than before. The rear end styling was only slightly altered with the truck lid having more of a rake. The hood was also re-designed to accommodate recessed windshield wiper-washers and it is also the last year for dual headlights and vent windows. Making this one very desirable. The calais name came from the french town and resort which overlooked the english channel. With the design being out for 5 years it was getting a little tired and a revamp was scheduled for the following year. The calais really was a de ville with just less standard equipment. For instance the power windows and 2 way power seats are standard with the de ville while the calais had hand crank windows standard with the power seat optional as well. That's right this car was ordered, from the factory, and built to the original owners specs. The data tag, which is available, even has his name on it. Owned by him until 2015 this car has had a pampered life and even to this day has less than 69000 miles on it. The exterior is in its original color and looks great due to the restoration of the body in 2001 and has been garaged kept ever since. The rear quarters were replaced as well as some patches on the front quarters which both were completely cut out and removed with new pieces welded in their place. The paint was then laid down giving this caddie its glass like finish. Going through a complete rebuild with less than 2500 miles on it this beauty still has plenty of life left in its second go around. With a ton of money in the car at this point in time, and a ton of receipts to prove it, the transmission was inspected and serviced to insure everything was in tip top shape. Although this work was done a little over 11 years ago the car has had only 2500 miles roughly since being done.
